The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has introduced several changes to the immigration program from 1 July 2015. The main issues affecting our clients are as follows:
- New contact information and website for the DIBP;
- New occupation lists; and
- New visa pricelist beginning 1 July 2015.
New contact information and website
From 1 July 2015, the DIBP introduced a new website to be accessed at www.border.gov.au.
Emails sent to the DIBP have changed from @immi.gov.au or @customs.gov.au to @border.gov.au due to the amalgamation of the DIBP with the Australian and Customs Border Protection Service.
New occupation lists
The DIBP has introduced a new occupation list which commenced on 1 July 2015 and includes amendments to the Skilled Occupation List and the Consolidated Skilled Occupations List affecting skilled and employer sponsored visas.
- Skilled Occupation List
The Skilled Occupations List (SOL) applies to the Graduate Temporary (subclass 485), Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa, and the Skilled Regional Provisional (Family Sponsored) (subclass 489) visa.
It is noted that the following occupations have now been included on the SOL:
- Cabinetmaker; and
- Panelbeater.
However, the following occupations have now been removed from the SOL:
- Dental Specialist;
- Dentist; and
- Urban and Regional Planner.
For more details regarding applying for Graduate Temporary (subclass 485), Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa, and the Skilled Regional Provisional (Family Sponsored) (subclass 489) visas, please feel free to contact us.
- Consolidated Skilled Occupation List
The Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL) applies to the Temporary Work (Skilled) (subclass 457) visa, Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa, Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa and the Skilled Regional Provisional (subclass 489) visa.
This CSOL has essentially remained the same, with the occupation of “Primary School Teacher” inadvertently left off the list from 1 July 2015. However, the DIBP has advised that this occupation will be returned to the list.
New visa pricelist
From 1 July 2015, the DIBP introduced a slight increase to many visa application fees.
The new pricelist for relevant visas appears below. Application charges for additional visa types related to the DIBP costs can be found at www.border.gov.au.
